Remarking

Prev Next

Remarking handles candidate appeals and post-publication corrections. Use this article to flag a published result for re-evaluation, perform the remarking, and publish the new result. For scheduled-wide rescoring (recalculating across every candidate when an item is broken), see Rescoring instead.

When to use remarking

Use remarking when:

  • One or a few candidates have appealed a result.
  • An error was found that affects an individual candidate, not the whole cohort.

For an issue that affects every candidate (a wrong key, a defective item), Rescoring is the right tool.

Remarking flow overview

Set up remarking permissions

Remarking is permission-gated. A System Administrator activates it on the appropriate roles:

  1. Open Admin > Roles.
  2. Enable Remarking on every role that should perform remarking.
  3. Confirm those roles also have Reports > Results so they can flag candidates.

Flag a candidate for remarking

The flow starts in Reports.

  1. Open Reports > Results.
  2. Tick one or more candidate results.
  3. Select Flag for remarking.
Eligibility

Only published results can be flagged. The button is disabled for results that are:

  • Voided.
  • Not submitted.
  • Already flagged as Remarking in progress.

Complete the dialog

The Flag for remarking dialog asks for:

  • Description (mandatory): why the remarking is needed. Visible to the assigned remarkers.
  • Select assessor: who will remark.
    • Original assessors: shows the assessors who originally marked the script, regardless of whether they currently have the Remarking permission.
    • All available assessors: shows everyone in the schedule's pool who has the Remarking permission.

Once you confirm, the selected assessor sees the flagged result on their Remarking tab and gets a dashboard notification.

Editing or re-flagging

You can flag the same candidate for remarking more than once. The same dialog can also be opened from the edit icon next to an in-progress remarking row to change the description or the assigned remarker. Cirrus shows a confirmation before saving.

Changing remarkers mid-flight

If you remove a remarker who has already submitted scores, those scores are removed. Cirrus warns before applying.

Perform the remarking

If you are assigned as a remarker:

  1. Open Marking > Remarking. The tab only appears if your role has the permission.
  2. The table lists only schedules with at least one candidate flagged. An empty list means there is nothing to remark.
  3. Switch between Schedules and Assessments views.
  4. Search by last name, first name, full name, username, user ID, email, or schedule title.
  5. Open a candidate to remark, as you would on Assess.

The Remarking interface is the same as the regular marking screen. Useful columns specific to Remarking:

  • Percentage: the candidate's current score. Updates when the remarker submits.
  • Original result: the result before remarking.
  • Adjusted result: the result after remarking, once submitted.

Submit and publish

  1. When remarking is complete, the remarker selects Submit scores. Submission is required.
  2. The result returns to Reports > Results awaiting publication.
  3. A user with Publish results permission opens the result and selects Publish. The new score replaces the previously published one and (if applicable) updates the candidate dashboard.
Only the assigned remarker can publish

The assessors assigned to a specific remarking case are the only people who can publish that particular re-marked result.

After publication, the status changes to Final results.
