Article summary

Re-marking will enable your organisation to handle candidate appeals for re-evaluation. This aricle explains how this is done.

What is Remarking?

After the results are published one or a couple of candidate could appeal. Or perhaps a mistake was found that only affects an individual student.

If you need to re-evaluate one or a couple of scripts, Remarking is the feature to use.

How to select for Remarking

Step 1: diving role based permission

To allow users to do remarking, they need role based persmission to Remarking.

  • Go to Admin > Roles to activate Remarking for one or more roles.

Step 2: Flag for Remarking button

The process of Remarking starts in the Reports module of Cirrus. To allow users to flag for remarking, they need role based permission to 'Reports > Results'.

  • On the Results screen, select one or more candidate results and click on 'Flag for re-marking'.
Not published or voided results

If results have not yet been published you cannot flag them for Re-marking. So make sure to publish results first.

Also, if a result is Voided or Not submitted or Status is “Remarking in progress” - the button is disabled.

Step 3: Complete the dialog window

A dialog window will pop-up. Complete all the steps in this window.

  • Discription (mandatory): Add a discription to clarify the reason for remarking. This will also be visible to the remarker(s) you select in the next step.
  • Select assessor: Select one or more remarkers (see below).
  • Original assessors: You can select from the original pool of assessors who were involved in marking this script. This list will include all original markers, regardless of their permission for remarking.
  • All available assessors: Shows all available markers with role based remarking permission.

After submitting, selected assessor(s) will be able to do remarking on the Remarking tab in Marking. A noticifaction will appear on his/her dashboard.

Repeating the process

Once Remarking has been completed and the results are published again, the status will change to Final results.

It’s possible to flag the candidate again and again (i.e. repeating the process). There are no limitation or restriction on the number of times you can Flag for Remarking.

How to perform Remarking

Step 1: Open Remarking tab

Candidates flagged for Remarking will appear under the Remarking tab in Marking.

  • Go to 'Marking > Remarking'. If you cannot see this tab, your role doesn't have access.

The Remarking table only shows schedules that have one or more candidates flagged for re-marking. If no candidates have been selected for Remarking, this list will be empty.

Step 2: Start Remarking

Remarking scripts is largely the same as the initial Assess.

A few helpful points to remember:

  • View by Schedules or Assessments.
  • Possible to search by Last Name, First Name of candidate, combination of first name + last name, UserName, UserId, email, Schedule title.
  • Columns:
    • Percentage: This is the percentage that the candidate achieved. This percentage will be updated after the re-marker submits the score. For example, the candidate got 50% initially, then the remarker changes the score of some of the questions and clicks on Submit scores - the Percentage will then update for that candidate.
    • Original result: The result the candidate got before remarking
    • Adjusted result: The result the candidate got after re-marking (after submitting the scores).

Step 3: Submit Scores

Once Remarking is done, the Remarker needs to submit the scores. After submitting the Remarking proces is ready for the final step.

Step 4: Publish Results

The final step is publishing results. This is necessary to publish the remarked results back to the Reports module of Cirrus, and (if applicable) to the candidate dashboard.

  • To allow users to publish results, they need role based persmission to the Results tab.
Publishing results

The assigned assessor(s) will be the one and only person(s) able to publish their remarked results.
