Site roles define what every user in your environment can see and do. This article lists every site-role permission and what it controls.
Cirrus ships with default roles (Admin, Author, Candidate) and lets you create more roles for your organisation's needs, for example a dedicated Marker or Invigilator role. A user with a custom role only has access to the parts of the platform their role unlocks.
Roles are managed by your site administrator under Admin > Roles. See also access levels.
Sorting
The number in the Sorting column controls the left-to-right order of the role columns in the overview. It is purely a display setting and does not change permissions. The role with the highest number is shown first on the left — usually System Administrator.
Role type
A role's type controls what kinds of users a holder can add or edit. For example, System Admins can deputise user management for a group within the hierarchy to Admins.
