Article Summary

An extensive marking workflow requires a marking coordinator to set up this workflow. Read more about this role here.

This articles will introduce you to the role and responsibilities of a marking coordinator.

This role will be setting up an entire marking workflow for a group of assessors and moderators (optional). Also the coordinator will keep an eye on the progress.

When and how to use a marking coordinator?

There are a few scenarios that will optionally or mandatory lead to an extended workflow and thus the use of a marking coordinator.

  • If the Assessment is published with an 'Extended Workflow', setting up such workflow with a coordinator is mandatory.
  • You could opt for an Extended Workflow when the Assessment contains open questions that require manual marking.
  • The marking coordinator needs to have a Site Role that allows access to the 'coordinator tab'.
  • The marking coordinator is part of the same hierarchy that was connected to the schedule.
More on coordinator tabs & hierarchies

You can only be a marking coordinator when:

  • The Coordinator tab is activated in your Site Role.
  • When the exams you need to coordinate and you are both linked to the same hierarchies.
  • When your user account has been given permission to be a marking coordinator for those specific hierachies.

NOTE: Contact your System Admin if you have not access to the tab or cannot see the exam content you need.

Setting up a workflow in 3 steps

Setting up a workflow requires 3 steps to be taken by the marking coordinator:

  1. Settings > different marking settings. E.g. allocating assessors by 'candidates' or by 'items'.
  2. Assessors > setting up a pool of assessors/moderators that will get the work done.
  3. Allocation > dividing the work over your pool with assessors/moderators.
