# Proctorio Templates

***The Proctorio tab in Global Settings is used to create and manage Proctorio templates.***

When the remote proctoring tool Proctorio is activated, a new tab appears under **Admin > Global Settings**. Use this tab to create Proctorio templates.

* For more information about Proctorio, see [Proctorio](/v1/docs/proctorio-2).
* For information about Proctorio settings, see [Lockdown options](/v1/docs/lock-down-options).

## What are Proctorio templates?

Templates are predefined configurations that define how Proctorio should behave during an exam using that template. A **Default** template is always available; it can be modified but not deleted. You can create as many additional templates as required.

## Using Proctorio templates
When [scheduling an exam](/v1/docs/scheduling-1), you can select one of the templates created here. The scheduled exam will use the Proctorio settings from the selected template.

For more information about Proctorio settings, see [Lockdown options](/v1/docs/lock-down-options).

Once a template is selected during scheduling, it is still possible to adjust the settings at the schedule level.

### Before using a template
Before first use, adjust and save the **Default** template to meet your requirements. If you do not do this, the scheduled exam may use unwanted settings.

### Save settings
Save any adjustments using the button at the bottom of the page.

### Timing of changes

Newly saved settings only take effect on schedules activated **after** the save. Changes to Proctorio settings do not apply to already activated schedules.

#### Applying changes to existing schedules
To apply the latest changes to an already activated schedule, deactivate and reactivate it as follows:

1. Go to **Delivery**.
2. Open the **Schedule** tab.
3. Open the schedule.
4. Click **Edit schedule settings**.
5. Click **Deactivate**.
6. Click **Activate**, then **Activate** again.

This forces the schedule to use the updated Proctorio settings.

:::(Warning) (What if the schedule has already started?)
If at least one candidate has started the schedule, it can no longer be deactivated. In this case, create a new schedule for all candidates who have not yet started and archive the original. Alternatively, remove all remaining candidates. See [Update/change schedule](https://help.cirrusassessment.com/docs/updatechange-schedule) for more information.
