The Match item type asks candidates to pair items on the left with their matches on the right using drag and drop. Use this article to create a Match item.
Match is auto-scored.

Create a Match item
In a collection, select + Add and choose Match.
- Enter the title for internal use.
- Enter the question in the rich text editor.
- Enter each pair: an option and its corresponding match. Three pairs appear by default.
- Select Add pair to add more pairs, or use the Remove controls to delete one.
- Set the maximum score.
- Save and close.
The order you enter the pairs in is the correct order. Cirrus shuffles the right-hand column for the candidate but uses your input as the answer key.
Scoring type
Match uses dichotomous scoring by default. You can switch to polytomous from Options if you want to award partial credit for partial matches. See Polytomous and dichotomous scoring.
Match in candidate delivery
Candidates see the Match item type in the same drag-and-drop format across all candidate delivery modes. No change is required to existing items.
Options
Match has no item-specific options beyond scoring type. See Item options for the general item options.
