# Labels

Cirrus incorporates a variety of 'Labels' at different points throughout the platform to facilitate the addition of metadata to your content, thus enhancing its organization.

Here are a few instances where labels are used extensively:

* Item management in the Library, which includes:
    * Personal labels
    * System labels
    * Labels employed during the creation of assessments
* User labels utilized during candidate selection

## General Label Search

Search boxes across the platform enable you to search for labels using common operators like AND, OR and NOT. Here are a few examples:

* To find an item tagged with both Label A and Label B, input: Label:A AND Label:B
* To locate all items without a specific label, say Label B, type: NOT labels:B

## Item management in library
Using labels in a library management system serves several important purposes:

* **Organization**: Labels help in efficiently categorizing and organizing the items in the library. They provide a clear and easily understandable structure to the library's collection, making it easier to manage.

* **Ease of Search**: Labels make it easier for users to find specific items in the library. They can simply search for the label instead of having to navigate through the entire collection.

* **Assessment Creation**: Labels provide an advantage during the construction of an assessment by serving as filters, aiding in the 'question selection' and 'form creation' stages.

## Labels for User Management / Scheduling
Beyond items, labels can also be assigned to individual users. Please note that these user labels differ from item labels:

To do this, navigate to Admin > Users and open the desired user profile. In the General tab of the user profile, you can add a user-label by clicking on "Empty". Begin typing the name of the label and a list of suggestions will populate. From this, you can select an existing label or click on "New Label" to create a new one.
User-labels can be a powerful tool for scheduling and user management. When adding users to a Schedule, simply input (part of) the user-label you wish to search for in the search box. The label will be displayed on the search results overview.
