# Assessments overview

This article covers:

- The **Assessments** overview
- How to create or edit an assessment from the overview page
- How to archive or delete assessments
- The **Update** indicator

#### Create or edit an assessment from the overview page

Click **Assessments** in the navigation panel to open the Assessments Overview:

The Assessments overview shows:

1. Assessments you have created
2. Assessments that have been shared with you

- **Use the Filter to find your assessment:** If the list is long, use the filter to narrow it down. For example, select a specific hierarchy or adjust the **Status** to show only **Live** assessments.
- **Click on the assessment to edit it.** To edit an assessment, click on it to open the assessment dashboard.
- The overview can be sorted by **Title**, **Last Modified**, and other columns.

- **Click + Add assessment to create a new assessment.**

Select the type of questions that can be used (Formative, Summative, or Mixed). See [How to create a new assessment](/v1/docs/step-1-create-new-assessment).

What you need to create an assessment

To create an assessment, you will need questions ready to add:

- Questions you have created, or
- Questions shared with you, or made available through hierarchies.

#### Archiving or deleting assessments

Select the checkbox next to any assessment and click **Delete** to remove it.

The **Bulk actions** drop-down also includes **Archive** and **Copy** options. (Your administrator must grant permission via Role settings.)

Assessments that have been scheduled or taken by candidates **cannot** be unpublished or deleted. This prevents loss of data that must be retained.

To amend a scheduled assessment, create a new version: click the three-dot menu at the top right and select **Create new version**.

See [Creating a new version of an assessment](/v1/docs/assessment-versioning).

To check how many versions have been created, open the revision history: click the three-dot menu and select **View history**.

Alternatively, archive the assessment to make it unavailable for future scheduling. Existing schedules are not affected.

#### Updated items

The **Update** indicator on the overview page means the assessment contains one or more [items that have been updated](/v1/docs/item-revisions-item-versions).

To apply the latest item updates, republish the assessment using **Bulk actions**.
